Sevilla FC say farewell to 2020 this Tuesday at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. The match comes against Villarreal CF, curiously the last team to visit Nervión last year as well. Javi Calleja's team secured a valuable three points a year ago, another positive result in a successful run at the Sánchez-Pizjuán for Villarreal. The Amarillos had previously picked up three consecutive draws in Seville; you have to go back to 15/16, with Unai Emery in charge, to find the last time Sevilla came out on top in this fixture. The 4-2 win on 15 March 2016 was sealed with goals by Iborra, Konoplyanka, and Reyes, with Víctor Ruiz scoring an own goal. Bakambu scored a double for Villarreal.

Since then, Villarreal have picked up at least a point on every subsequent trip to the Sánchez-Pizjuán - six of the twelve up for play. This puts Villarreal as the club with the longest unbeaten run in Nervión. The only exception is Elche CF who have been unable to return to Seville after an administrative relegation in 2015.

Going over the other teams to have played at the Sánchez-Pizjuán, seven have fallen to defeat this year: Betis, Celta, Eibar, Granada, Levante, Osasuna, and Valencia. In 2019, Alavés, Athletic, Getafe, Real Sociedad and FC Barcelona also tasted defeat. Barcelona's defeat came in the Copa del Rey; in La Liga they are unbeaten in Nervión since 2015. You have to go back to 2018 for the last time the remaining five teams lost against Sevilla in Seville. The team defeated Huesca, Real Madrid, and Valladolid in the league, while they came out on top against Cádiz and Atlético in the cup. Atlético are unbeaten in Nervión in the league since 16/17, while Cádiz, who have only been back in La Liga once since then, last tasted defeat to Diego Maradona's Sevilla in 92/93.
