Sevilla FC now know their opponents for the round of 32 for the UEFA Europa League. The draw has pitted Sevilla against SS Lazio, who were runners-up in their group behind Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany. The knockout-tie will begin on 14 February at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome and will conclude on Wednesday 20 or Thursday 21 at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, as Sevilla's and Betis' matches cannot be played on the same day, with both teams having the home advantage in the second leg.

The Italian side are currently fifth in Serie A, where they finished last year when they lost their Champions League place on the final day of the season. They have several former Sevilla players in their ranks, such as Ciro Immobile, the team's centre-forward, Martín Cáceres, Jaoquín Correa and the Sevilla youth graduate Luis Alberto. It will be the first time that the two teams meet in an official match, although they have met in friendlies. In the summer of 1996, the two sides drew one-all in Rome, the same result as in November 1992, one of the international matches that Sevilla FC played at the Ramón Sáncehz-Pizjuán due to Maradona's stay at the club.
