The first defeat of pre-season came on Saturday lunchtime in the Emirates Cup, with a 6-0 defeat against Arsenal.

The result was confirmed within 20 minutes of play, after the Gunners scored four goals in the space of just nine minutes.

Unlike the previous three pre-season fixtures, we did not initially take control of play, with Arsenal keeping hold of the ball. They opened the scoring with their first chance of the clash.

Saka went down under pressure from Rekik, which left the referee unmoved, but the linesman flagged for a very debatable penalty. The English youngster then stepped up and beat Bono from twelve yards.

That was a hammer blow for Sevilla, who went on to concede three goals in the following nine minutes.

Gabriel Jesus scored the first just three minutes later, taking full advantage of a loose ball in the box.

Saka added his second less than two minutes later, with the move coming from a poor clearance from Bono. He tapped in unmarked at the far post.

Gabriel Jesus then got his second after a cross from Martinelli on the right-hand side, with his shot going through Bono.

Sevilla were naturally shell-shocked, but managed to fend off their attacks for the rest of the half. However, chances of their own were few and far between before the break. One big chance fell for En-Nesyri, but he could not control the ball in order to get a shot away.

Before the break, Gabriel Jesus and Odegaard had chances to add a fifth, but a double save from Bono kept them out.

Fernando and Rekik went close after the interval

With both sides unchanged after the break, the second half was a more open affair. Arsenal continued to go forward regularly, while Sevilla found more space as they moved forward and looked to pull a goal back.

The best two chances early on in the half both came in the form of set pieces from Acuña. The first one was headed onto the roof of the net by Fernando, before Rekik's header went narrowly wide of the post.

Lopetegui then gave four youngsters a chance by bringing Kike Salas, Iván Romero, Pedro Ortiz and Pablo Pérez with twenty minutes remaining. En-Nesyri was brought off at that point due to receiving a blow to the face. Nacho Quintana, Luismi and Munir were brought on a few minutes later

The fifth goal came between the two sets of changes, with just under a quarter of an hour remaining. Gabriel Jesus completed his hat-trick after again taking full advantage of a loose ball in the box. Nketiah then added a sixth with a minute remaining, with Martinelli rolling the ball to him to tap into an empty net.

There's no time for the team to lick their wounds, as they are back in action tomorrow evening against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium at 18:00 local time (19:00 CEST). Like today's match, live coverage is available on Sevilla FC TV.
