18 of the 19 teams had already done it, but Sevilla FC entered the last third of the league season after Sunday's win in El Gran Derbi. There are only 12 matches left in the league and last night's win against Betis revitalised the side as they look to repeat last year's achievement and qualify for the Champions League for another season. With Real Sociedad's defeat at Granada, Lopetegui's men have reestablished a six point gap over Imanol Alguacil's side.

The six points could turn to nine should the Nervionenses come out on top of Elche this Wednesday in what is Sevilla's game in hand from all the way back at the start of the season when Lopetegui's men began the season late as a result of their Europa League success. Sevilla have some tantalising fixtures in the last sprint of the season. Before the first international break of 2021, the team will make an away trip on Saturday to Valladolid. Six points this week would be vital and would put the side in the driving seat of Champions League qualification ahead of the end of the season.

The matches against Elche and Valladolid before the international break will be vital

After those matches, there will be a final sprint of ten matches to decide each team's fate in the league. April starts with none other than a clash against Atlético Madrid, with an away trip to Vigo a week later. There will be no football on the weekend of 17 and 18 April due to the Copa del Rey final in La Cartuja, but there will be a midweek clash against Levante in Valencia. April finishes with two difficult fixtures with a home match against Granada on the 24th or 25th, before a six-pointer away to Real Sociedad between Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th.

The last month of the league, May, will be just as demanding with five matches in three weeks. The final sequence starts at home to Athletic Club on 1 or 2 May, with a trip to Real Madrid a week later. The last midweek match brings Valencia CF to the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, before the last away match of the league against Villarreal on 15 or 16 May. The season will finish at home to Deportivo Alavés on the 22nd or 23rd, a date on which the team will have hoped to have accomplished their goals and will be able to head off on their holidays for a more than well-deserved break.
