Sevilla FC and Real Betis played their one hundredth derby match this Sunday in La Liga. The two teams have come face to face in all sorts of competitions and circumstances, but it is in the First Division that the two sides from Seville have had the vast majority of their encounters. Since the first encounter in 1935 at Betis, ending in a 2-2 draw, to last night's win in Nervión thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri, there have been one hundred El Gran Derbis in La Liga, with the balance heavily in favour of Sevilla. Last night was Sevilla's 47th win, almost a win rate of 50%. Betis, who have only won two of the last 14 derbies, have 30 wins. The remaining 23 games ended in a draw. As such, Sevilla are unbeaten in 70% of derby matches they contest. In terms of goal difference, Sevilla have scored 153 against Betis' 121.

If you add the fixtures in the Second Division, the Copa del Rey, and the famous Europa League tie in 2013/14, there have been a total of 134 derbies played between the two teams. Sevilla to continue to come out on top of the statistics with 63 wins, 32 draws and 39 defeats. In all competitions that have been considered official, such as regional competitions from the 20th century, El Gran Derbi has been contested 191 times in total. In those 191 clashes, Sevilla have come out on top 91 times, Betis 57, and 43 have ended in a draw.

Focusing in on players, last night was a special one for Sevilla FC captain Jesús Navas who marked his 20th league derby with an assist, his fourth against the eternal rival. The appearance puts Navas joint-top on the list of Sevilla players with most appearances against Betis, moving onto 22 alongside Pablo Blanco and Antonio Álvarez.
