After the World Cup in Qatar came to a close, FIFA confirmed the list of seven nominees for the Best Men's Goalkeeper award, which recognises achievements between 8th August and 18th December 2022.

Yassine Bono has deservedly been nominated for the award, after a string of key performances for Morocco in Qatar helped them to reach the semi-finals for the first time ever.

He has been nominated alongside Alisson Becker (Liverpool/Brazil), Thibout Courtois (Real Madrid/Belgium), Dominik Livakovic (Dinamo Zagreb/Croatia), Mike Maignan (AC Milan/France), Emiliano Martínez (Aston Villa/Argentina) and Manuel Neuer (Bayern Múnich/Alemania).

FIFA commented that Bono was "a key factor in Sevilla having the best defensive record in La Liga in 2021/22 and his efforts were recognised when he received the award for the division’s best goalkeeper. A calm and assured presence as the last line of defence for club and country, Bounou’s performances in Qatar were described as heroic."

The winner, who will succeed Edouard Mendy, will be announced on 27th February 2023.
