MENDILIBAR SURPASSES THE ALL-TIME RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE AWAY WINS IN LALIGA

José Luis Mendilibar's record since his arrival on the Sevilla bench is almost immaculate. Seven wins, three draws and just one defeat in his eleven games in charge. If you look at the games away from the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, the statistics are even better, with a record of four wins and two draws. The draws were in the two European games, one that was a near defeat - in Manchester - and another that deserved to be and was, until the last play, a win in Turin. Taking away those two draws in UEL, what remains are four away LaLiga victories in as many games, a record that is unprecedented in the top flight for Sevilla FC. So much so, in fact, that in the last away fixture in the league, at San Mamés, Mendilibar managed to equal the highest tally in this statistic, something which he has now managed to surpass alone.

Twelve points out of a possible twelve after wins away to Cádiz CF, Valencia CF, Athletic Club and Real Valladolid. As if that wasn't enough, these away matches were accompanied with assured displays at the back, as the team managed to keep clean sheets in all four. These numbers demonstrate the effectiveness of the team's style of play in these matches, being very serious at the back and knowing how to take advantage of the circumstances of the game and the opponent to ultimately swing it in their favour. In fact, these four games were all goalless at half-time and were all settled in the second half.

Curiously, there was no precedent for four away wins in a row, but there was a precedent for consecutive clean sheets away from home in all those minutes in a row. Even more curious are the results of that streak, with four goalless draws at the start of the 2011/12 season. These were away to CA Osasuna, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid and RCD Mallorca respectively. There was even a fifth clean sheet, which is the team's away record without conceding, although unlike the previous four, which were with Marcelino on the bench, this one ended in victory, on Unai Emery's debut as Sevilla coach, with a 1-0 win at Zaragoza. Their next league away games will take place in just ten days' time at Elche, a team already relegated but coming off the back of Sunday's home defeat of second-placed Atlético Madrid.
