Julen Lopetegui always says his intention is to play a balanced game, giving the same importance to attacking and defending. However, there is something clear when you look at the numbers this season. It's much easier to play an attacking game when you have a solid defence

No other LaLiga side has picked up more clean sheets this season than Sevilla FC. They are already on 19 for the season after last night's goalless draw with FC Barcelona. They have 12 clean sheets out of 30 matches in La Liga (40%), and another two in the Copa del Rey and five out of just eight matches in the UEFA Europa League.

Sevilla FC have four clean sheets in their last ten league matches

Only Real Madrid and Getafe have more clean sheets in the league with 14 and 13 respectively, and both have a game in hand, while Atlético de Madrid are level with Sevilla FC and also have a game in hand. Taking all competitions into account means that Sevilla will lead this ranking regardless of what happens this matchday, as Getafe and Real Madrid only have 17 clean sheets so far.

Even though the side cannot rely on the backing of its fans, it has to be said that this defensive strength is becoming even more clear at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. They have picked up three clean sheets in their last four home games. They did not concede against Betis, Barcelona or Cluj. The only time they did was the 3-2 win against Osasuna.
