02/04/2017
Entradilla
Sevilla went after the goal, but didn't have the cutting edge needed to break through a defensive Sporting side, making it four matches on the trot without a win
Cuerpo Superior

Without the fluency that brought them where they are in the table, and suffering from the disappointment of similar or even worse afternoons, Sevilla FC were unable to come away with more than a draw against Sporting de Gijón. Sampaoli's side pushed them back and had them at their mercy, but did not have the fluency or the power required to find a win for the first time since five matches ago.

Football was back after a long break. Sevilla were eagerly awaiting it, after the bitter taste that the visit to the Vicente Calderón had left. It was midday on a sun-soaked Sunday...The scene was set for great things, but Jorge Sampaoli's men demonstrated that they're not going through their best period of the season and despite searching for the win and totally dominating play, they did not have the sharpness required to get past a solid Sporting, who played for the draw and achieved their objective.
