Simon Kjaer has now completed his first training session with Sevilla FC, which was followed by his presentation in the press room of the Sánchez Pizjuán. The experienced defender explained his first impressions on arriving in Seville: “I didn't just speak to Krohn-Dehli, but also with Poulsen. Both of them told me great stuff about the club, and the city. They just confirmed what I had already heard. It's a city that loves its football. Any player would want to play here. It was very easy for me to decide everything, for both professional and personal reasons”.

In this respect, Kjaer heaped praise on the team and the city: “They're impressive. In training I saw a lot of quality. I felt a lot of heat from the temperature and also from the fans. I'm really excited to get started. I'm very happy to be here. I know about the recent history of Sevilla. They've done very well in the last five years. I'm looking forward to helping that to continue. I want to put the club's objectives ahead of my personal goals. I want to contribute to the future success of the club. I'm a simple guy. I prefer to do my talking on the pitch. I'm ready to die on the pitch to help achieve our goals, and I would do the same for my family. The two things go together”.

Another issue to come up was the interest of other teams: “I see coming here as taking a step forward in my career. I've seen a lot about Sevilla's interest in the press but when the offer came in I didn't hesitate at all. The Spanish league is the best in the world and it will help improve a lot of my qualities. But it's also an opportunity for my family to enjoy another culture”.

After a few more questions, Kjaer, who admitted to having a decent understanding of Spanish, and who up til now has been more of a journeyman in his career, playing no more than two season at the same club, admitted he wants some continuity: “It's true that I've played for many teams. Coming to Sevilla is the biggest step I've taken in my footballing career. It's time for me to stay somewhere a bit longer, to play at the highest level, like the Champions League. But I don't only enjoy my job, I love living in different countries too. But now it's time to settle down for a while. I would like to stay here for more than two years.
