On Sunday night, Sevilla FC recorded a good win over Getafe CF in the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. It was their third consecutive win at home in La Liga, after wins over Real Sociedad and Levante; and their fifth win in a row at home if you include the UEFA Europa League victories over APOEL and Dudelange. Whilst it may look like the attack of Lopetegui's men is what has earned them their 19 league points so far, it has been their defence which has been the foundation for this success.

Speaking of which, Sevilla FC have kept a clean sheet in five of the their ten league matches this season, a 50% record. These clean sheets came against Espanyol, Granada, Alavés, Levante and Getafe; and in three of these five games, Sevilla won by a solitary goal. For this reason, the thing we can say for definite is that, with just over a quarter of the league season played now, five of the team's six wins have came without Vaclík conceding a goal.

Sevilla have kept five clean sheets in their six league wins

The good work done defensively is down to all eleven players that take the field, not just those who play in the defence. The forwards, like De Jong, Chicharito, Ocampos or Nolito, press from the front whilst the midfielders keep up that good work in behind. At the back, there is a back four who, with each passing day, are getting to know each other better - something which is becoming even more evident, as in the most recent matches we have started to see the quality that Jules Koundé possesses.

In addition, the strong defence goes beyond the ten La Liga games. In the three Europa League group stage games that they have played thus far, Lopetegui's men have also kept clean sheets in each of these. Overall, in thirteen official games this season for Sevilla FC, they have kept eight clean sheets, which raises their figure for keeping clean sheets to over 60%. Taking all this into account, in eight of the nine victories so far this season, the team have managed to not concede a single goal.
