After the draw on Friday night against Cádiz CF in the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, Sevilla FC booked their place, with four matches still to go, in European competition next season. With twelve points still to play for in the league, Julen Lopetegui's team are now mathematically guaranteed a spot in one of Europe's three competitions next season - the Champions League, the Europa League or the Conference League. The team's objective is undoubtedly to get into the first one. With one more point, our appearance in at least the Europa League would be confirmed as we sit 12 points above Villarreal in seventh place.

Eighteen qualifications in nineteen years. That speaks of our European pedigree over the last two decades. Only in one season since 04/05 have Sevilla failed to get into Europe (12/13). This is, as a result, our tenth year in a row qualifying for Europe. There aren't too many teams in Europe who can boast of such a consistent record of qualifying for Europe since that famous goal from Julio Baptista against CA Osasuna which opened the doors to a new and glorious era in the club that is ongoing to this day, and has seen the trophy cabinet of the Sánchez-Pizjuán fill up.

Only Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich have as many appearances in Europe since 04/05

Until the 18/19 season, only Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Lyon could rival Sevilla in their European appearances. Since then, Arsenal and Lyon have fallen from that list, leaving only four teams who can boast of ten consecutive qualifications for Europe. Barcelona have the record of always being in Europe since European footballing competitions were inaugurated in 1955. Real Madrid dropped out of Europe for the first and only time in their history in 96/96, while Bayern's last time out of Europe was back in 92/93.

Giving even more merit to Sevilla's achievement, the club only qualified for Europe eight times in the entire 20th century, something we have now more than doubled in the first two decades of this century. We used to celebrate it back in the early 2000s - now it is expected. It has been and continues to be a marvellous run and era in the club's history, as it has also seen the addition of seven European trophies to our trophy cabinet - a journey from Eindhoven to Cologne that has seen us pass by Monaco, Glasgow, Turin, Basel and Warsaw.
