Jorge Sampaoli regretted the result that the team brought back from the Villamarín, although he highlighted the good work of his players: "It was pure domination by Sevilla, with eleven men, with fewer men, and with the numbers advantage. We played a great game but we lacked the finishing touch."

"We tried all our options, first Rafa Mir, then Dolberg, and En-Nesyri and we didn't find what we were looking for, but we played a great game." Regarding Montiel's red card, he commented that "when under pressure these things happen, but the team overcame it, they played very well, with structure and personality. They deserved to win when you consider what happened on the pitch."

And although things started looking better, the reaction didn't bring the result they wanted: "We lacked precision and strength in the box. They were hard to break down, we tried to play on the outside and that's why I went for two strikers. Even so, the production was very good and we are happy about that. The team deserved to come away with more, but we'll keep working hard to improve.
