Sevilla FC regrets to announce that, this Friday in Sevilla, Rafael Carrión Moreno, club president between 1997 and 2000, has sadly passed away. Son of former club director Rafael Carrión Romero, club director for many years, he became president after also serving as a member of the club's governing body. On May 15, 1997, he was appointed president in testing economic and sporting circumstances. During his presidency, the club would achieve a memorable promotion to the First Division against Villarreal CF, however, after only one year in the top flight, the poor performance of the team, which would be later relegated back to the second tier, led to his resignation and the arrival of successor Roberto Alés.

Rafael Carrión left his post but remained one of the club's major shareholders. In fact, his sons have since followed suit by forming part of the Board of Directors. Currently, his sons Fernando -Vice President II- and Jesús, as well as Gabriel Ramos, represent the Carrión family shares. Sevilla FC wishes to convey its deepest condolonces to Rafael Carrión's family and friends at this difficult time.
