Morocco fell to a 2-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon against Egypt in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations. Vahid Halilhodžić chose to start the three Sevilla Yassine Bono, Munir El Haddadi and Youssef En-Nesyri, and despite seeing his side take the lead through Boufal with a penalty, they would go on to lose the game.

The Egyptians made a great start to the second half and scored in the equaliser on 53 minutes through a deserved goal from Salah, the best of the night. At the end of normal time, Halilhodžić made substitutions, taking off En-Nesyri on 83 minutes with extra time looming. In extra time in exactly the 100th minute, Trézéguet scored the second Egyptian goal which would turn out to be the definitive one, although Egyptian looked more likely to score a third than Morocco were to equalise. The Sevilla player Munir was replaced with less than 10 minutes to play.

Following this result, Morocco have been eliminated from the African Cup of Nations and the Sevilla players will now return to the city to join up with the rest of Julen Lopetegui's squad.
