LUUK DE JONG JOINS FC BARCELONA ON A SEASON-LONG LOAN

Sevilla FC and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement which will see striker Luuk de Jong join the Catalan club on a season-long loan.

Luuk de Jong joined Sevilla from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2019 and made his debut in the season opener against RCD Espanyol in Cornellá. His first goal came in the ninth match of LaLigawith a late winner at home to Levante UD. He went on to score the winner in the derby three weeks later. He completed the season with six league goals and one assist in 35 appearances. He also scored one and set up another in four Copa del Rey outings.

Howeverthe Dutch striker was at his best in the UEFA Europa League. Before the lockdown, he set up En-Nesyri's goal in Cluj, which helped the team reach the last 16. After the break, he played in the final four matches and scored three crucial goals. His winner against Manchester United in the semi finals was followed up by two first-half headers in the 3-2 final win against Inter, enough to see him named Man of the Match

He scored twice in the UEFA Europa League final against Inter

Last season, the striker kicked off the season with a UEFA Super Cup appearance, before featuring on 34 occasions in LaLiga, scoring four goals. He also made six appearances in the UEFA Champions Leaguescoring at home to Stade Rennais and Borussia Dortmund. He also added three goals in the Copa del Rey, once against Ciudad de Lucena and a brace at home to Valencia.

De Jong heads to Catalonia with 19 goals in 94 appearances, and the striker has been called up consistently for the Dutch national team. In fact, he was called up for EURO 2020, and featured in the first two matches before an injury prevented him from picking up more minutes.
