Juanlu made his debut for the reserves during the 2019/20 campaign to which would then, after the lockdown period, lead to his emergence into the first team. It also should be mentioned that Sánchez travelled with the first team to Cologne that season in the club's sixth UEFA Europa League triumph. Continuing to follow Lopetegui's instructions, last season Sánchez kept up the hard work and the top performances in the reserves, tallying up 23 appearances and three goals. In addition to the official 'double debuts' in the first team this year, Sánchez has made 14 appearances and scored three for the reserves. Juanlu has also been competing internationally for the Spanish under 19s.
