As has been known since last November when UEFA made it public, the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán is one of the candidates to host the UEFA Europa League final in 2021. On Friday morning, the government approved the Spanish Football Association's request for the stadium to host the event.

According to a press release from the Minister of Culture and Sport, Sevilla's stadium 'would be a perfect location due to its link with the Europa League' - a trophy the club has won five times, meaning it is the trophy the club has won the most of. Furthermore, the release went on to say that it would be a great chance for the city of Sevilla to host a major European final which would be followed by millions worldwide.
