Carlos Fernández, having undergone surgery only eight years ago, has already shown his reluctance to dwell on his injury and overwhelming enthusiasm and motivation to bring Sevillistas joy: "I'm very positive and have a lot of mental strength. I want to confront this small setback and return as soon as possible. Things happen and you can only confront the difficulties because that's life. For me I've been hit by a sporting, professional issue but when you work without stopping and do everything you can to be in the best shape possible, you're on the right road and will have your success. It's just been a setback and I have no doubt that it's going to be a great year. Recovery is going great. I'm doing a lot of exercises and development is very, very good. I'm calm because I'll be back with the group soon".

"Recovery is going great. I'm doing a lot of exercises and development is very, very good."

He has taken the decision to stay in Barcelona, to continue recovery where he underwent surgery: "I want complete dedication to the knee. Each second that passes is a second to take advantage of in the quickest and best way possible. I try not to think about everything that can distract me or look for anything sentimental. I try to keep my head free which is why I stayed in Barcelona to work twice as hard with no one here to distract me".

He also had words on the new coach, who he's working to return to impress: "He caught my attention. Not just for his style but because this is an important year and I want to come back as soon as possible to contribute. It seems that bit by bit we're picking up form and the team is adapting to the new style of play. The coach, his staff and my teammates are in a period of adaptation. They're natural workers and we're going to bring Sevillismo a lot of joy”.

"We're a hard-working group who are with a lot of enthusiasm wanting to break through the door between academy and First Team"

And that's something Fernández wants to be involved in and sees this year as the year the academy players can make a statement: "We've perhaps been a covered by circumstances but we're a hard-working group who are with a lot of enthusiasm wanting to break through the door between academy and First Team. We're showing that we can have our chance in the First Team and take advantage of it".

He'll be working hard to do just that but "without doing anything mad. The most important thing is setting short-term goals. That's how I address it. I'll try to be back as soon as possible. They've given me a window of 6-8 weeks and things are going great. If the decision is taken to operate again I'm not going to go mad eitherI'm going to be calm, get in the best shape I can and return as quickly as I can".
