Daniel Carriço has renewed his contract until June 2020 and headed to the press room after signing on the dotted line. The Portuguese centre-back started by thanking the club: "I want to thank the Chairman, Óscar and the coaching staff for believing in me. Sevilla FC has always been the first place to be for me though I have had clubs interested in me. I feel an huge afinity with this badge and here is where I've had my biggest successes. I'm happy here and very at home the city, now I just need to keep enjoying myself."

Though he spoke about a potential exit this summer, he confirmed his first contact with Berizzo was definitive: "The talk I had with the boss was crucial, I was left sure that he trusted me and I forgot about a possible departure. I wanted to carry on here. He knows he can count on me. We've met many times before and he knows what kind of player I am, that I've been at the club for many years and that I can be a leader in the changing-room."

Carriço talked about 'Sevillismo' and competition in the changing-room: "I always say that I wasn't born a Sevillista but I'm one more fan. I feel an afinity with these colours and I want to keep enjoying my time here. There is a lot of competition, with two players available for every spot and I think we can have a great season. There's excitement and we have a lot of matches ahead of us, but all the players are ready to go because the gaffer makes us feel important."

"We're all ready to go because the boss gives us confidence"

Though he didn't deny adjustments need to be made, the centre-back seemed very satisfied by the start of the season: "We're in the early stages of the season, with a new coach, new ideas, a lot of new players, as is always the way with Sevilla. We have to improve, but we are on the right track, training and improving we could have a great season."

Finally he spoke about the future: "I'm 29 years old and I want to keep progressing. I give my best and leave everything out there every day. My teammates have congratulated me and are very happy."
