No match means nothing in the history of LaLiga. And an outstanding last three years for Sevilla have seen them put distance between themselves and those chasing them in the historic league table.

Los Nervionenses, after overtaking RCD Espanyol in 2015, making 6th place theirs, have pulled away from them in the last three seasons by 27, 9, and, for now, 16 points (which could be 19). That comes to a total of 52 points which tightens their grip on sixth place in the ranking, despite the fact that Espanyol have been in the top flight for 82 seasons, compared to Sevilla's 73.

They find themselves amongst those who have contested the highest number of league campaigns, behind Valencia (4th with 82) and Athletic Club (5th with 86), both of which Sevilla are closing in on, 6 points ahead of the Basques this season and 23 ahead of Valencia.

With one match still to play this season, Sevilla could increase the gap between them and the next-placed team to 30 points. In the 14/15 season, Los Nervionenses were in 7th place and had leap-frogged Real Sociedad in the historic league table (after their spell in the second division).

In that campaign they had 25 fewer points than RCD Espanyol. But after beating them by 27 points in that campaign, Sevilla took 6th place by two points. In the 15/16 season they increased the gap by another 9 and in the current campaign (16/17) they are 16 ahead. That puts Sevilla FC on 2,816 overall, leaving Espanyol on 2,789

Sevilla find themselves 27 points ahead of Espanyol, 244 ahead of Real Sociedad, 932 ahead of Betis, and 707 ahead of Real Zaragoza, now in the second division

Pulling away from Real Zaragoza (9th), now playing in the second division, Sevilla's 69 points to date this season will see them move away from Real Sociedad (8th) by six points and Real Betis (10th) by 31 points.

That means that an historic sixth-place is tied up, with 27 more points than Espanyol, 244 more than Real Sociedad, 707 more than Real Zaragoza and 932 more than Real Betis. And, should Sevilla beat Osasuna in the final game of the season, the points total for the current campagin will reach 72 which will extend Sevilla's lead from the chasing pack.

Above Sevilla are Athletic Club in 5th who have recorded 500 more points after spending 13 more seasons in the top flight that Los Nervionenses.

72 points - should Sevilla win this weekend - would be a second-highest points total in the club's history

Should Sevilla beat Osasuna this weekend in the final game of the 2016/17 season, a points total of 72 would be the second highest in the club's history and would secure the club's status among the biggest clubs in Spain.
