Last night, Sevilla FC Women were eliminated at the quarter-final stage after suffering a 6-0 defeat away to FC Barcelona. The weight of the occasion proved too much for Cristian Toro's team as they came up against world-class opponents as the Catalan strike force unlocked our backline time and again.

At the start of the match, we maintained a good spell of possession, but after five minutes Barca went forward with a move ended with Salma Paralluelo's shot that ricocheted off Diana Gomes and into the goal of Sullastres, who attempted a save at full stretch, but was unable to prevent Girláldez's first goal. This kicked off a period of dominance from the home side, who threatened both through the middle and out wide. Aitana, Mariona on two occasions (one being a penalty that captain on the night), another from Paralluelo and Hansen all scored up until the 40th minute, leaving us with no breathing room or time to recover.

We were unable to make our mark in a second half, where Barca further strengthened their grip on the game. On the hour mark, recent Ballon d'Or Aitana Bonmatí scored the seventh of the match Finally, with fifteen minutes to play, academy graduate Ariana Arias fired in their eight goal to equal the tally reached in the same fixture in Liga F earlier this season

Following this result, the team can now focus fully on the league campaign, which resumes when this week's cup opponents journey to the Estadio Jesús Navas for Saturday's meeting, which kicks off at 18:30. The players will now have two days to recover and look to stamp out some of the errors from this performance, in the hope of a better display to maintain the great form of the last few months.
