We only have good things to say about him and thank him for what he has done. I hope the players that have come this year put in the same effort that he put in here. We want to give him the send-off he deserves".

"We have to look at potential outgoings to continue to keep on bringing players in"

Regarding any potential departures that could arise, the General Sporting Director explained that "there is more supply than demand, which complicates things for certain departures, but we also have to look at our current funds to see if we can continue buying players".

Finally, Monchi confirmed that, after his contract extension, a loan deal is being negotiated for the striker Carlos Fernández: "His contract extension has been confirmed and made public, and we are It's been a step forward because it was the first time I left home, understanding the game better and living professional football close up, being a first-teamer and not in the academy. There wasn't anything else to compete for and it's been a positive year apart from the muscle injuries. I wanted to step forward by living on my own, in a different city, with different weather and a different culture. I saw it as a challenge and it was a very good decision in every sense. I can say that I'm a better footballer and a better person".

A year later, he returns to Sevilla as a changed man but he has similar feelings: "There wasn't anything new beyond returning to see my teammates. After a year you get used to everything and each club is different. This is something that I already knew and now I'm finding it out again. Maybe the atmosphere surprised me despite there being so many new players. There is a good team spirit, which is a positive in a very long season like the one that awaits us".

"After my loan at Deportivo I can say that I'm a better footballer and a better person"

As soon as he returned from his break he played against Everton: "In that process of adapting, I think it was the fourth day with the team, at the end of the day you have to try to be the best you can and push on. It's true that I didn't participate much and it was my first game back, but it was positive above all because the team was able to win. The manager's philosophy is based on dynamic football, it's about having the ball and winning it back quickly after losing it. These characteristics are good for us and we hope to keep on playing at this level because a very interesting year awaits us". Although his excitement is very high, Carlos knows the competition for places is also the same: "I'm the first person that's aware of the level required here and the sporting situation at the club. I'm 23 and I can't stop after last season. I need the most continuity possible and we'll keep watching the philosophy of the club, to see what suits us and what's best for everyone".

As a sevillista, the forward was asked if he thinks the new signings have the right profile that please people in Nervión: "The player that's pleasing to see in the Sánchez-Pizjuán, or at least what I've lived through as a fan, is a player that's happy, active on the ball, and shows that courage but without being aggressive. They all have it here and Sevilla makes everyone who arrives here have that competitive gene." He knows that the fans have got right on board with what the team are doing: "The fans have a special excitement and if they see that the players are feeling good and they identify with us, it's really important. Unlike in Saturday's game, it would not take long for Sevilla to establish their dominance, Nolito scoring the opener just after quarter of an hour had passed. Scoring his first after a set-piece, his second would come after an assist from Max Wober. Two authoritative strikes to add to an already impressive preseason for Nolito.

Sevilla dominated from the outset and showed no signs of complacency

A clinical Nolito and a confident Sevilla spelled a lot of chances, and nearly a third goal before half-time. Wober would have a go this time, sending the ball just over with his effort. Nevetheless, Sevilla wouldn't have to wait long after the restart to extend the lead. Nolito would find a well-deserved hat-trick after some quick play by Pozo. Not letting up even at 0-3, Dabbur would be the player to add the cherry on top of an impressive team performance. Unfortunately, the Danish defender would soon have to leave the field injured, being replaced by Diego Carlos on half-an-hour. Geiger would be the next Hoffenheim player to make Vaclík work, just five minutes before the German side found a breakthrough. Grifo would be the man to eventually break the deadlock, scoring from the penalty spot after a Joan Jordán handball.

Munir's equaliser proved the spark Sevilla needed

Perhaps woken up by the breakthrough, Sevilla would find a reply before the half-time whistle. After a cutting ball from Escudero, Munir would find the back of the net with a deft finish, finding the equaliser despite Hubner's outstretched hand. The goal gave Sevilla confidence, with Munir once again having an opportunity for 1-2 - this time Baumann would avert the danger.

Just as they had at the end of the first-half, Lopetegui's side would restart with their tails up - scoring soon after the second-half had begun. After a throw-in from Escudero found De Jong, the Dutchman would assist Argentinian midfielder Éver Banega, who nodded home from close range.

With 1-2 on the scoreboard, Lopetegui would look to reshuffle - with his side now looking far more comfortable on the ball than they had in the early stages. Pozo and Koundé would replace Gudelj and Carriço, with Sevilla shifting to a 4-4-2 (with Banega and Jordán working as a double pivot). With the change in formation, Munir and De Jong would play alongside each other up front - a partnership which gave De Jong one decent look at 1-3. However, the striker would only find the side-netting.

Far more comfortable in the second-half, Lopetegui's side would see out the win with ease

Having grown considerably in presence over the course of the game, Sevilla would see out the second-half with a comfortable performance. I've played there a little bit, including last season, and I feel very good there. I have to improve defensively, but they're helping me. And also, I was able to get a goal”.

He also talked about his arrival in a very changed group: “I tend to be with the new signings, with Joan, Óliver… I'm practically a new player too, and we're nearly always together. When you're the only player for the position, you relax a bit unconsciously and it isn't good for you or the team. We will need everyone and if we're united it will be a good year. Also, he confirms that, in the manager's system, "I feel more comfortable as an inside forward, although I can play as a 6, an 8 or a 10. I can play as part of a double pivot, at Eibar I played as a second striker and I've played in a diamond and on the wing. I've played all over, from midfield to up front, but maybe I see myself best as an inside forward.

"I've adapted very well and I want to keep on improving, my style fits in well with this team."

Asked about the dressing room and his relationship with his new teammates, the centre midfielder has no doubts: "It's great. Adapting has been very good and I've been pleasantly surprised by the familiarity at the club and the dressing room. I'm an open person, I get on really well with everyone but maybe Reguilón, Óliver, Pozo...but I get on well with everyone. Speaking about the team, I've been adapting very well, I want to keep on improving and I'm very happy. My style fits in very well here, although at Eibar I learnt many things that can make me a more complete footballer.

One of these is set-pieces: "I've got a lot of belief in my set-pieces and at my former clubs it's helped us win points. The manager trusts me and if I have to take the responsibility, I will. Éver has got it too, but the most important thing is that the team benefits from them.

"I've arrived at a historic club that has done very important things and I've come across very kind people."

For Jordán, the leap is important in his career: "I came from a family-like, humble club like Eibar and it's a big change. Here, it's a historic club that has done very important things, and what I've found is that the people are very kind. Immediately, they've helped me settle in and I'm grateful that they help in this way. I've also been surprised because I came from a club which pressed high up and tried to win a second ball. I had in mind the image of Lopetegui at Porto, the national team and Real Madrid, of keeping the ball well and attractive football. I've been surprised by the play off the ball, winning it back quickly and being incisive. It's been good for me because I learnt it at Eibar. We understand each other well on and off the ball".

It's an important leap, but it isn't one that scares him: "I'm a person that isn't bothered by the timing, the age... you can always improve and you have to be hungry in football and in life at all levels. I'm here for that and I'm going to give it my all".

Thu, 01 Aug 2019 09:23:49 +0000 l.cardenas 37574 at https://www.sevillafc.es A SESSION IN THE GYM AND THE SWIMMING POOL TO KEEP UP THE PREPARATION https://www.sevillafc.es/en/actual/news/gym-swimming-pool-session

On Thursday morning, the squad worked in the water.

Thu, 01 Aug 2019 09:36:35 +0000 l.cardenas 37575 at https://www.sevillafc.es THE TEAM CONTINUES ITS PREPARATION WITH A PRACTICE MATCH https://www.sevillafc.es/en/actual/news/evening-practice-match-in-germany

Lopetegui was able to see Bryan Gil in action for the first time.

While some of the coaches watched the encounter from the sidelines, Lopetegui took the opportunity to watch it from a hill next to one of the touchlines, at the training ground of TuS Mingolsheim, which has hosted the team since Monday.
