Jesús Navas had a day to remember today. After signing a three-year contract extension, he watched and had the final word at a celebratory event made in his honour. Our captain firstly wanted to say thank you, addressing the people most close to him, including Monchi: 'I didn't know the event would be this big and I have nothing prepared... I want to thank everyone, the Club, my teammates, everyone here, my representatives, my parents, my wife and kids... I thank the president, the vice-president, all the board, Monchi... they were always there both in the good times and the bad.'

He couldn't leave out the fans: 'I also want to thank all Sevillistas, I always wanted to stay here even in the difficult times. I can't wait until they can see me out on the pitch with my teammates again. I want to keep giving my absolute all for this Club, we will fight to achieve even more because Sevilla FC and the fans deserve it. It's an honour to wear this shirt and I want the fans to enjoy us out on the pitch again.'

'To be the captain and work to achieve these goals is very special'

Responding to questions, he let his ambition be known: 'I'm very ambitious, just like the whole group who always push for more. Last year we were close to fighting for La Liga and this year we will go for everything. I also thank the press for how they've treated us.' He went on to discuss the good moments in his career: 'I've had some great things happen in my life: winning the World Cup, having a stadium named after me... that gives you the motivation to keep working and being an example for all the young kids at the Sports Village. It's important to be a good person and humble.' And with the same humility, he said that he affronts this new stage with the same excitement as at the start of his career: 'Whoever knows me knows that this is just like we're getting started again. I haven't stopped at all during the summer and I get excited every year. To be the captain and work together to achieve these goals is very special.'

After speaking about the Spanish National Team, who he wished the best of luck, he had some words for the fans: 'The fans have always shown us so much love and we've always pushed to give out all. I hope they can come back to the stadium soon to see us.' He also spoke about his continual desire to win, after saying how special it was to lift the Club's sixth UEFA Europa League as captain: 'I'm a simple guy, I take things as they come and I'm full of motivation to keep giving my all.'

'We're full of motivation to affront the challenges the coach has given us'

To finish, the legend said that both parties were clear in what they wanted: 'From the first moment, we both wanted to continue working together and that's the most important thing - I hope I've many years left in me playing football. We're so excited to get started again and with the coach I'm convinced we will achieve great things.'
