Sevilla FC progressed to the UEFA Europa League semi finals after a late Lucas Ocampos header was enough to beat English side Wolverhampton Wanderers. It will be on Sunday when the Nervionenses will play against Manchester United for a place in the final, the sixth Europa League semi final for the Nervionenses this century.

Reaching the semi finals now means that they have tied level with Juventus, who have reached six semi finals in this tournament, with Internazionale leading the way with eight. The first semi final came in 2006, the famous win against Schalke 04, with the second semi final taking place a year against Osasuna. The Nervionenses would again face Spanish opposition in their next appearance in the final four in 2014, beating Valencia with the late, late away goal from Mbia. Fiorentina and Shakhtar Donetsk were the opponents in 2015 and 2016 respectively. The Blanquirrojos won all five, and went on to win the final every single time.

Sevilla FC will play in their sixth European semi final against Manchester United on Sunday at the Rhein Energie Stadion in Cologne (21:00 CET), with the English side knocking out FC Kobenhavn in extra time on Monday night, with an extra-time penalty from new arrival Bruno Fernandes.

Unlike the BlanquirrojosJuventus were only able to turn their six semi-final appearances into silverware on three occasions (1977, 1990 and 1993). They were runners-up in 1995, where they lost against fellow Italian side Parma. The Bianconeri failed to reach the final in their other two semi finals.

COPA DEL REY

Sevilla FC have also reached the semi finals of the Copa del Rey eight times this century. They won four of those, eliminating Deportivo (2007), Getafe (2010), Celta de Vigo (2016) and Leganés (2018). Two of those wins were followed up with wins in the final, against Getafe in 2007 and against Atlético de Madrid in 2010
