Matches away from Nervión have been a problem point for Sevilla FC throughout their history. For decades, in a time when the home factor was felt even more, the Nervionenses had real difficulties away from the Sánchez-Pizjuán. It wasn't until the 2004/05 season that the team would win three back-to-back away games in the league for the first time in their history. It came under Joaquín Caparrós near the end of the season when the team won back-to-back at Mallorca, Montjuic, and the San Mamés.

Fifteen years later and with Julen Lopetegui in charge, Sevilla FC managed to win three consecutive away games in La Liga for the seventh time in their history. It is not the first time the team have accomplished the feat under Lopetegui; they did so last season with wins against Espanyol, Granada, and Alavés. Impressively, in both of these runs the team did not concede a single goal. Sevilla have not conceded a goal away from home since the defeat against Athletic Bilbao on 31 October.

A six-game winning run away from home with only two goals conceded, one of them a penalty

Including all competitions, Sevilla are now in the midst of a six-game winning run away from home, something the team had never accomplished in their illustrious history. And the other competitions were of no less level than La Liga, with two wins coming in Europe's biggest trophy: the UEFA Champions League. The run in full has spanned wins against Krasnodar, Huesca, Rennes, Getafe, Ciudad de Lucena, and now Valencia. The team have kept four clean sheets in this time and have only conceded two goals, one against Krasnodar and a penalty against Rennes.

It has been the perfect end to 2020 away from home as the team must now wait until 2021 for another away match. And it will come at the closest possible ground: the Benito Villamarín. Should Sevilla beat their eternal rival, not only would the record extend to seven games, but they would also break the league record for longest winning run away from home with four games.
