The fact that Lucas Ocampos has hit the ground running during his first season with Sevilla FC isn't news to anyone. The winger, who came from Olympique de Marseille, generated a lot of hype and expection when he arrived; however, nobody could have predicted just how much of an impact he was going to have in Nervión. So much so that the Coach of the Argentina national team, Lionel Scaloni, didn't hesitate on giving him his first international call-up only a few weeks after the league campaign had begun. Ocampos has been showing good form throughout most of the season, and this can be shown in his own statistics that his performances have been of a high level. In fact, the footballer who was born in Quilmes 25 years ago has, with his penalty in the draw at the Wanda Metropolitano, managed to achieve something that many of his compatriots haven't managed to do for over 30 years.

With the 10 goals that he has now scored in LaLiga Santander this season, he has become the fourth Argentine player in Sevilla FC's history to have reached double figures for goals scored in a single league season. Moreover, he is the first to do so this century, with the next player who was closest to achieving this figure was Javier Saviola, who scored nine LaLiga goals during the 2005/06 season. To find the next player to achieve such a feat, you have to go back three decades. On this occasion it was Ricardo Daniel Bertoni who scored a whopping 16 goals in the 1979/80 season. Alongside the two mentioned, there are another two to add into this mix. The first player was the legend José Carlos Diéguez, who was in the first team for ten years between 1957 and 1967. During the 1959/60 season, he scored 12 league goals; whilst in the following season, he scored eleven.

Rounding off this particular list of Argentine Sevilla FC players to have scored ten goals in a single league campaign, is none other than Héctor Horacio Scotta. Scotta can boast about the fact that he was and has been able to carry out this statistic in more seasons than his other compatriots. He wore the Sevilla FC jersey for four seasons and was only below the double figures goals tally in the third of those seasons (1978/79) when he scored nine. In his first season with the Nervión outfit, he scored 12. In the second, he managed 16 and in his last season, he also managed 16 goals - rather curiously the exact same number in the exact same season as his compatriot and the aforementioned, Bertoni. Now, Ocampos is bringing those statistics from the 60s, 70s and 80s back into light and is underlining once again, the undeniable affiliation that Sevilla FC has with the country of Argentina; that has found, for many of its main stars, a perfect location in Nervión.
