Pablo Machín was interviewed this Monday by La Jugada de Sevilla on Canal Sur Radio. The Sorian began speaking about how he feels after the win on Sunday night: 'Tge team in second place sleeps just like the team at the top. I hope everyone enjoys it but we'll keep our feet on the ground because to achieve anything in this sport you have to be working day in, day out.' Returning to the summer, he highlighted the clarity of Sevilla's intentions with him: 'They let me know that they wanted me to be the manager and they left me no reason to doubt anything. I accepted after only 15 minutes speaking with Caparrós and he told me that I would succeed here and that I didn't need to tell him anything about me because he already knew me. He only insisted in asking me if I knew where I was coming to.'

In terms of their possibilities of fighting for La Liga, he stated 'the stats say that we're up there because we deserve it. We must be doing something right, just like the other teams who are taking points off the big teams. Nothing is impossible and if we're here after 12 matchdays, hopefully we'll still be there in 12 matchdays and then we'll see.' In fact, he admitted 'maybe it would've been more ideal to have been more of a dark horse and advance slowly, but when we started the idea was to get points in the bag as insurance for whatever may happen.

Speaking about individuals, he referenced Ben Yedder and Franco Vázquez' change of mentality: 'If the player doesn't want to, it's impossible. My job is to tell them how they can benefit the team, and in doing so, themselves. Players like that can't be sporadic, they have to be involved 100% of the time. They understood that and the credit is all theirs, helped maybe by conversations which help them understand why they are being asked to do so.

After speaking about his system, he stated how he managed to convince his footballers: 'They are receptive and intelligent. You have to convince them not with your authority but with your reasoning. If they realise that what you ask of them will improve them, you have them.' He also underlined the role of Caparrós: 'He is Sevillista number 1 and he is clear in that the manager is in charge in the dressing room, in the same way he is in charge in the offices.

'You have to convince the player not with your authority but with your reasoning'

He ended by ruling out a move to the Premier League any time soon and giving an interesting thought: 'I experience the club's winning genes in the dressing room. It surprises me how they take each win, because with how difficult it is to win in a league like this, it seems more like a relief for a job well done as opposed to joy. This is a team used to winning and that separates them from a lot of other ones.
