Qualification for Qatar 2022 got underway with potentially five Sevilla FC stars involved, four Argentinians and one Mexican. With qualification already in their back pocket, Lionel Scaloni's Argentina were back with a victory, defeating Chile 2-1 in Calama. Although Breneton equalised for the Chileans, Di Maria's early strike and a first half goal from Lautaro Martínez handed Argentina the win. Papu Gómez started the game and racked up a full 90 minutes, whereas Acuña came off the bench for the last 20 minutes for Nico González. Montiel didn't manage to get on the pitch from the bench and Ocampos was left out of the squad. Argentina will finish the international break in Córdoba against Colombia in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The other game of the night with involvement from a Sevilla FC perspective was between Jamaica and Mexico. It saw a vital comeback staged by the Aztecs, which puts them in the direct qualification places in the CONCACAF table. Although Johnson put the locals in front in the early stages of the second half, who were already down to ten men, Mexico mounted a comeback in the last ten minutes with goals from Henry Martín and Alexis Vega. Tecatito was in the midst of these crucial moments, coming on the pitch at the 71 minute mark for Antuna. Mexico are third in the group behind Canada and the USA and stretch the gap to three points between them and Panama, who will play in the play-offs, as things stand. Mexico are back in action in the early hours of Monday against Costa Rica at the Estadio Azteca.
