INITIAL AGREEMENT REACHED WITH PORTO FOR THE LOAN OF LAYÚN

Sevilla FC and FC Porto have reached an agreement for the loan - with option to buy - of Miguel Layún (Córdoba, 25th of June 1988, Mexico), subject to the passing of a medical by the Mexican full-back this Tuesday, when the player arrives in Seville.

Layún made his debut in professional football for Tiburones de Veracruz, where he broke in with force, making the jump to Atalanta in Italy in 2009. There, he had few opportunities, soon returning to Mexican football, this time joining América. Layún soon became a first-team regular, playing 147 matches (scoring 17 goals and making 10 assists) between 2010 and 2014. In that time, he won the Torneo Clausura of 2013 and the Torneo Apertura of 2014 in the Mexican league. 

In January 2015, Layún joined Watford FC, winning promotion to the Premier League in the process. He quickly moved to FC Porto in the 15/16 season, where he has spent the last two and a half seasons. He has played 79 matches with the Portuguese side, scoring 11 goals and making 23 assists. 

On the international stage, the full-back has made 60 appearances for Mexico - playing for his national side at the Brazil World Cup in 2014, the Confederations Cup in 2017 (where the side achieved a third-place finish), and in two CONCACAF Gold Cups in 2013 (achieving third place) and in 2015, where Mexico emerged victors after beating Jamaica in the final in Philidelphia. Layún is the second player born in Mexico to pull on the Sevilla shirt - following in the footsteps of Gerardo Torrado (2002-2004) - though he joins Guido Pizarro (Argentinian) who also boasts Mexican nationality as of 2015.
