Diego Carlos arrived on Tuesday at Teresópolis, the Brazilian team's headquarters and where they will prepare for their two qualifying matches for Qatar 2022 against Venezuela and Uruguay. Sevilla's defender admitted that it is not easy to immediately adapt to Brazil's style of play, but he said he is more used to it after his time in Seville: 'Sevilla have prepared me well for this style of play, thinking not only about how I can defend, but how I can play out from the back. It's no problem for me, it's what I do for my club.'

The defender also thanked the club that has allowed him to develop and earn his first call-up for his country: 'Sevilla have given me the chance to play in a big European club where I have the opportunity to win trophies. My main focus was to play well for Sevilla as I knew if I gave a good showing for my club the chance to play for my country could open up. This call-up changes everything; from now on I will need to be even more focused and prepared and I will have to play even better for Sevilla for Brazil to keep counting on me.'

Speaking on a personal level, he did not hide away from what the call-up means for him. It has given him the chance to play with his idol, Thiago Silva. Chelsea's centre-back wished him well and that this is the first of many call-ups to the Brazilian national team. Diego Carlos finished by saying: 'I am really happy to be here. It's a childhood dream that has come true. It's an amazing opportunity. I hope to give my best to help the team and to keep getting called-up to be alongside this fantastic group, they were really welcoming.'
