The Chairman remembered that "alongside Scotta and Bertoni, he formed one of the most fabulous front-lines" the club has seen

This was José Castro's speech, which closed Sevilla FC's Hall of Fame ceremony for Enrique Montero:

Since 2009, nine players have been awarding legendary Sevilla status:  Juan Arza, José María Busto, Marcelo Campanal, Ignacio Achucarro, Antonio Valero, Paco Gallego, Enrique Lora, Curro Sanjosé and Antonio Álvarez... Today is Enrique Montero's day, though, in reality, it is a day of recognition for all those players who have defended our shirt. Many came before we started to induct players into our Hall of Fame... Today is their day, for those who won't be in it but also will be. For those of you who are here, for all of you, our ex-players, whose merits and tenacity have contributed to the magnitude Sevilla has now achieved.

But I move on to Enrique Montero. Enrique, the magician who came from El Puerto and captured the heart of Sevillismo. Enrique, the artist, and I emphasise artist, who exchanged the uncertainty that accompanied his origins in football for universal acclaim. Enrique, who alongside Scotta and Bertoni formed one of the most fabulous front-lines this Chairman can remember. Enrique, who injured his right knee when he was at his best and whose move would go on to be one of the most important sales in Sevilla FC's history.

"Enrique exchanged his shaky origins for universal acclaim"

Yes, Enrique, the same one from the unforgettable Montero chant, "Montero, el mejor del mundo entero" (Montero, Montero, the best in the whole world). Montero, who returned from a drought without games and continued to captivate us with his art, who went to Cádiz to return to the Sánchez-Pizjuán and receive a standing ovation when he stepped onto the field... Because he could come in a Cádiz shirt or whoever's shirt, but would always be Enrique Montero, Sevilla FC's Enrique Montero. That's why we loved him and why we still love him more than thirty years after he left our club. Though that's to say, you went but you never left... Legends like you always remain, here in our hearts.

Cuerpo Inferior

Enrique Montero, in short, are words that mean an incredible deal to Sevilla FC and for all Sevillistas and this is what we have tried to put across here at today's ceremony, Enrique. That right-foot, that touch of magic in his boot that made the impossible possible. Yes the titles could have given greater grandeur to his career, but the football of Enrique Montero was so valuable, he did not even have to crowned with cups and titles. He is everlasting, he is missed by almost all Sevillistas that had the great fortune of being able to witness his incredible skill

"Football's cruel fate wanted you here with us..."

Enrique, anyone who knew your story would say life dealt you a bad hand with that damn tackle from Polozzi... You would have signed for FC Barcelona and who knows where you could have got to. But football, or football's unlucky fate, wanted it that way, with us, in your home, on your field... You suffered, you screamed, you cried in pain, they took your cast off and your knee had to mend again... But you never gave in, you never capitulated, you got back on the horse and you brought excitement to fans that will remember you forever. You could have won a lot more at Barcelona than here, of course, but they wouldn't have loved you the way we love you. And we are with you, Enrique, 31 years after you left us, remembering your glory and recognising you as a legend...

Today football and Sevilla FC gives you a very well-earned congratulations!
