Sevilla FC have been specialists in winning on the opening day in recent years, and this year was no different as they defeated Rayo Vallecano 3-0 at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Julen Lopetegui has won all three of his opening days at the club: yesterday's win, last year against Cádiz and in his first year against Espanyol. If you add Pablo Machín's 4-1 win away to none other than Rayo Vallecano, you get the longest winning streak on the opening day in La Liga

The Nervionenses have also almost gone a decade without losing on the opening day. The last time the team did not win on the opening day was when Eduardo Berizzo's side drew at home against Espanyol with goals from Lenglet and Leo Baptistao. Once more at home and against Espanyol, Jorge Sampaoli had a start to remember as the team won 6-4 thanks to goals from Sarabia, Vietto (2), Franco Vázquez, Ben Yedder and Kiyotake.

The year prior to that, Unai Emery's last campaign, the team drew nil-all away to Málaga. He did start the league off with a win in the 2014/15 season when the team defeated Espanyol 2-1 away from home thanks to goals from Bacca and Iborra. The last time Sevilla lost on the opening day was in 2013 when a Perotti goal was consolation in a 3-1 defeat to Atlético Madrid.
