The president of Sevilla FC, José Castro, backed the selection of Óscar Arias as sporting director when he attended this morning's presentation. At the event, he explained that "after doing the analysis that we had to carry out for days" following Monchi's exit from the club, "we opted for continuity. We studied different alternatives, but we had the best one here. Because when things work, it doesn't make sense to change them".

"Aside from the contract, what I value in this matter is the trust that the club has placed in him and his team"

Asked about his contract, he confirmed that it is "for two seasons, although aside from the contract, what I value in this matter is the trust. A trust that the club has placed in Óscar and his team. And I would also emphasise details such as the fact that, when it came to talking about money with him, he said to me: "President, whatever you consider appopriate will be fine". That's valued a lot".

"We're not looking for someone based on their name, but the right person"

José Castro also added that one more person will be incorporated into Óscar Arias's team, "always under the direction of Óscar. But it's not decided yet, we're working on it. We're not looking for someone based on their name, but the right person".

Regarding the possible return of Jesús Navas, the president indicated that "there's no process underway, but there has been contact". He did not want to comment further on the AFA's (Argentine Football Association) approach for Jorge Sampaoli: "He's already said it, that he's had an offer. But at the moment he's committed to Sevilla FC. We have a lot to play for and I'm not talking about anything other than the matches we have left. There will be time to sort out and look at the future. Behind closed doors we never stop working, but no one, whoever it may be, will distract us from the final stretch that we've got left".
