PUBLICITY
Zokora was presented this morning with president José María del Nido as a master of ceremonies, in an unsurpassed background, the Giralda, and the Hotel Doña María. Obviously, the many columnists on site wanted to take advantage of capturing the counsel of the team on various topics of reality, the majority of which were focused on Luis Fabiano.
“I hope to explain the situation in few words. We are talking about a complete operation, in which different societies participate. Sevilla is the only owner of the legal rights of the player, the only Entity which can say whether he stays or goes. Sevilla does not have a formal offer for Luis Fabiano today, which will be incorporated the 21st and he will stay with us another two years at least”, said Del Nido, his first answer about the future of the Brazilian forward.
He added: “No business has the power to obligate Sevilla to do anything. It’s true that there was an offer for Luis Fabiano from Milan, which has been rejected, and as of today there are no more offers”. Speaking of the offer, he admitted that Luis Fabiano “asked that the offers that come in be revised, and the one that came in we rejected due to the absurdity of it, because the amount was what we could pay to purchase a player on the B team. Once we rejected it they took it back”.
Having said all this, President Del Nido let his own opinion slip in on the incident: “As of today, July 15th, I think that Milan does not have money to sign Luis Fabiano, today, I don’t know what will happen tomorrow…That’s my opinion. This doesn’t have to do with retention, we want him to complete the contract, I don’t think that we have to or will sell Luis Fabiano, but in the unlikely case, Sevilla always has a plan B for everything. I don’t think that anyone has enough money to purchase Luis Fabiano, and we haven’t even gotten around to asking”.
Zokora: A new player with incentives
In addition, asked by José Fuentes and his recommendations at the time of selling Luis Fabiano at a set price, he noted that “I respect everyone’s opinion, but I don’t get involved in what Luis Fabiano would have to be paid at where he could go, I would like it if nobody said how much we’d have to sell him for”. To end the subject, the president assured that in the unlikely case that the sale of Luis Fabiano were to happen, he’d give money to the group RIO for his transfer, “it’s a matter that we’d have to discus, because it’s a complex situation and silence does us well”.
With the chapter on Luis Fabiano closed, José María del Nido also had words for Zokora: “In this unsurpassed background of La Giralda, and the pride of all Sevillans, and thanking the Hotel Doña María for its facilities, we realize the first presentation of a Sevilla player this season, an important player, who has a record of participating in official games with the Ivory Coast team”. Also, he explained that “we have come to an agreement with Tottenham, for which we paid a sum for Zokora, and an incentive for each time that Sevilla ends up in Champions, with a cap, I think, of 1.5 million Euros”.
Jesús Gámez, closed for lack o fan agreement with Malaga’s Lolo and Duda
Naturally, Jesús Gámez’s name was also brought up during the press conference. Del Nido informed that “on the 6th of July, at the Parador Nacional of Antequera, we had a reunion with the assistant sports director and I with Fernando Sanz and the general director of Málaga. There, the transfer of Gámez was closed for Duda and Lolo, without any type of economic compensation. The same day a contract was closed with Jesús Gámez and we’re waiting for Málaga to close its deals with Lolo and Duda”.
It is given as fact that Jesús Gámez is very close, although he won’t be the last. The president clarified that “the topic of signings will not be closed after Gámez is signed”.
The appearance of the president before the press ended with a question on his personal and professional life, due to a recent accusation by the district attorney’s office. “I continue to be innocent as does any person that goes up against an oral examination. I hope that I am not asked again about topics that affect my personal and professional life at a Sevilla ceremony. When someone wants to talk about my personal and professional life they should ask for an interview at my professional office and I assure you that I will grant one”, he indicated, to later assure his presidency throughout the whole process, although he reminded that “Sevilla is functioning and is capable of functioning with José María del Nido and without him as well”.
